Montgomery relies a lot more on the analytics

It’s only been 9 games, but it’s clear his management decisions are based more on analytics. Some examples I recall:

Β

  1. In Saturday’s game, Hendricks was pulled after 5 innings and 74 pitches to avoid facing the lineup for a third time.

  2. Do not try to advance a runner with a bunt. Players should try to hit instead. This happened in the 9th and 10th innings of Sunday’s game.

Β

It’s not what we’re used to seeing, but the numbers back up these decisions. It’s also how analytically-driven teams, like the Dodgers, operate. Taking this approach should improve our chances of winning games.
