We can all agree that #15 should have been retired years ago. You can make arguments for other numbers, but none are tied so completely to a player that embodied the Angels, played for us his entire career, or means so much to the organization.

I do concede that the front office asked Tim Salmon if Randal Grichuk could wear 15, and Salmon was okay with it. But it’s really not a decision for him to make. We don’t retire a number for the benefit of a player. It honors the player, but it’s retired for benefit of the fans.

And now that we’ve assigned someone else the number, we have angered the baseball gods. And we will not win again as long as Grichuk is wearing it. I like him as a person and a player, and have for years. But he’s cursing the team and a change needs to be made.
