Those two losses broke this team. After tough series in Toronto and Atlanta. this was the series to bounce back. To pull ahead of the Mariners who had passed us. And then the grand slam that ended it all. Devastating blow to morale. But one game at a time right?
But then Detmers fucking blew it. Because Matt Wise is fucking garbage and all our starters have regressed under him. But offense wasn’t ready to quit! Moose had a clutch homer! Then we gave up more runs. But Moniak came back and tied the game! We weren’t going down so easy. Then the bullpen blew it. Fuck Matt Wise. But its the bottom of the 9th. Two men on. Ohtani up. And he chases everything playing hero ball. And in the end another crushing loss. And the team has finally, finally, broken.
They’ve all given up and it shows. Ohtani is now doing what Judge did and trying to force homeruns every AB. He’s checked out of trying to win games and it just trying to pad his stats. Even the veteran Moose has given up. Just chilling with his buddies from the Rockies.
Rendon is busy laughing his ass off in the dugout like usual. He doesn’t give two shits about baseball. Trout has that 50 yard stare. He’s seen it all before, he’s numb to the pain. Drury is stoic as ever, he never smiles, never frowns. Who knows what he’s thinking. Maybe he regrets not signing with the padres.
Loup is quiet and reserved. An introvert who’s just trying to get by. Giolito is eyeballing some chick in the stands. Estevez is busy forcing Soriano to watch anime instead of studying the scouting report. Webb is mean mugging the other pitchers before he goes out there to get shelled.
Only Rengifo seems to be having some fun. He’s working those ABs, he’s hustling down to 1st base even on routine grounders. ironic, given he was benched for that lazy ass play of his not to long ago. But soon even his spirit will break. This team breaks everyone in the end. Even the strongest of wills can not resist constant erosion.
