Some moments transcend sports, reminding us that baseball is about far more than wins and losses.
On July 12, 2019, in the Angels’ first home game following the tragic passing of Tyler Skaggs, the organization honored their teammate in unforgettable fashion with a 13-0 combined no-hitter over the Mariners.
With every player wearing Skaggs’ No. 45 and his mother, Debbie, throwing an emotional ceremonial first pitch, Taylor Cole and Félix Peña combined to throw the first combined no-hitter in Angels history. Cole tossed two hitless innings before Peña delivered seven more, allowing just one walk while striking out six to complete the no-hitter.
It remains one of the most emotional and unforgettable moments in baseball history.
