Moreno had two generational talents in Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani but failed to build a winning team around them or invest properly in the organization. Big-money signings like Pujols, Hamilton, and Rendon didn’t work out, and his lack of focus on pitching hurt the team even more. It’s been over a decade since the Angels last made the playoffs, and since then, they’ve had no winning seasons, a weak farm system, and a reputation for being poorly run.
If Arte had taken the same approach as the Dodgers after signing Ohtani—putting money into player development, analytics, and infrastructure—could the Angels could’ve been on a similar path. With how successful the Dodgers have become, it’s fair to ask: does that make Arte one of the worst owners in baseball? It really feels like he wasted a once-in-a-generation chance with Trout and Ohtani.
Arte Moreno on Track to Be Remembered as One of the Worst Owners in Baseball History if not the worse?
