In the early 2000s, shortly after Chone Figgins came up with the Angels, it was “common knowledge” that the groundskeepers would heavily chalk the infield foul lines to help his bunts stay fair down the third baseline. Apparently that extra mm of height could help a ball roll right down the line. I was a kid when i learned this, so of course I’ve always believed it, but decided to see if i could find any info on it recently. I can’t seem to find any evidence that this is actually true. Anyone else ever hear this? Is this just something someone said and it got repeated or you think there’s any truth to it? Definitely a pretty fun fact if it’s real, but I don’t want to go around spreading things that aren’t. At least not any more than I already have. 😬
Help me confirm or disprove an old Angels rumor?
