Should Fulmer be our fifth starter?

Fulmer made some starts for us last year so it’s not an unprecedented move. As a starter last season he had a 4.50 ERA in 38 innings.

Because we can’t keep trotting Jack out there to get shelled. It’s not good for the team, but also not good for Jack’s development. He’s young and has potential, and letting him get teed off on is just gonna destroy his confidence.

From what I can see, command is a big issue. Too many uncompetitive balls that don’t get chases and too many meatballs down the middle. And not much in between. It’s small wonder his walk rate has ballooned and he still gets hit hard when he finds the zone. His 91 location+ stat, worst among starters, supports this eye test. But this is something he needs to work on down in AAA. Not up here in the bigs.

Other options as a fifth starter include Silseth, Dana, and Detmers. But Silseth just started pitching again. Dana has not exactly been lighting it up at AAA. And Detmers has a good thing going in the pen. For this year at least I think it might be better for him to stay in that role he’s settled into. Thoughts?
