Pretty sure doing this check would have been easier if I just used Stathead or similar but I just perused down the stats for this season’s pitchers https://www.baseball-reference.com/leagues/majors/2024-standard-pitching.shtml. I knew that Jack K’s K/9 rate was really low, but it’s almost impressively low, mostly from ground balls generated from his sinker.

The next pitcher who kind of forced me to set those boundaries was Emerson Hancock, who has made 9 starts with a 5.6 K/9 and a 4.76 ERA.

Of qualified pitchers, the lowest K/9 belongs to Miles Mikolas and his 6.3 K/9. Griffin Canning has 6.8 (4th lowest), with Tyler Anderson right behind him at 6.9 (6th lowest).

Edit: Additionally, of all pitchers with K/9 < 4, he’s the only one with more than 12 IP (he’s pitched 38.2 IP).
