So I checked out the record for HR in a season by an Angels SS and it’s currently held by Jim Fregosi in 1970 with 22 HR.
Now I wasn’t a fan of the Angels in 1970 and I imagine only a handful of people on this sub were but I would say with perhaps 40 or 50 more games to go that there is a very good chance Neto beats that record.
But I checked out that 1970 season and Fregosi actually had a fairly similar slash line. Here they are side by side.
Fregosi: 22 HR. .278/.353/.459. OPS: .812. 33 Doubles. 5 Triples. 0 SB
Neto: 16 HR. .266/.330/.463. OPS: .793. 25 Doubles. 1 Triple. 20 SB
With 40 odd games I’d say there is a very good chance Neto puts up more doubles. The triples no chance. He was a lot more active on the basepaths. His averages are slightly lower. But to my question:
Presuming Neto breaks the HR record would you say this was the best offensive season by an Angels SS?
