Spring Training is almost upon us — the Dodgers and Padres will be in camp by the end of this week. And the new year means new gear.
MLB unveiled the Spring Training caps for each club on Monday. These caps, designed by New Era and bursting with color, will be worn only during Spring Training.
Besides the mix of vivid blues, oranges, reds and yellows, many of the caps feature a club’s secondary logo, such as the Cubs’ “walking cub” logo, or the twin flags on Minnesota’s cap denoting Minneapolis and St. Paul.
Each team’s cap will also feature a home plate-shaped patch in each team’s colors on the side. The patch will feature the year, the MLB logo and either a palm tree for Grapefruit League clubs or a cactus for the Cactus League.
The cap’s construction has also changed. The mesh backing that has been worn during Spring Training since 2022 is gone. The actual fabric of the crown itself, as well as the logos, are getting a whole new look, one that creates a fuller, more detailed appearance.
