What are we going to do, package all of our mildly promising, unproven players with 4-6 years of control left to receive a total of maybe two top 100 prospects and a bunch of mids if we’re lucky?

And if you think we should rebuild AND keep O’Hoppe, Schanuel, Neto, etc. good luck. You’re not going to get prospects back ranked higher than the guys we traded for them. Which was not high. And we have very little in terms of valuable players nearing free agency. Especially now that Regnifo is hurt.

It just doesn’t make sense. Extend the window an extra couple years by trading guys with a ton of team control and get little back. Very likely we look up in 3-4 years and are even worse off.

You can’t make up for incompetent drafting and player development. That needs to change first. In the meantime the best thing Arte could do for us is spend an obscene amount of money on FA’s who you could always trade in a couple years if our young players don’t progress and we’re still not competing. You could also trade a couple pieces now that are nearing free agency, like Drury, maybe Ward and Canning.

Outside of that, unloading guys with 4-6 years of control to get back prospects who aren’t much better but that we’ll have for a couple more years just doesn’t make sense. Effective rebuilds are usually based around a few very good players nearing free agency. Otherwise you have to do it organically and/or buy your way out of it.
