A Japanese article on Neto talking about how Ohtani coached him

comments

So there was an article by Japanese baseball media Full-Count, where Neto talked about Ohtani coaching him. I thought it was pretty cool so I decided to share it here. I’m translating from Japanese what has already been translated from English so there’s probably a few things lost in translation, but bear with me. Here’s basically what the article says:

  • Neto, asked about Ohtani giving him advice in the dugout: “He looked at some videos of my at-bats and gave me comments about what I can do to get better. He told me to keep my form consistent and keep my timing on the fastball. It’s great to have such a successful player like him around.”

  • Ohtani left after the game on the 18th (for surgery) while Neto headed to Tampa, but Neto received some texts from Ohtani on the following day. “He sent me a lot of recordings yesterday. I’m really grateful. I texted him back saying how much I appreciated it. Whenever I get in the box, he checks my at-bats like a scout and that’s really cool. He really wishes me success.”

  • About the kind of advice he received: “He told me stuff I can improve on in the batter’s box and listed things I can do. He made me go back to the basics. During BP I made sure I can naturally do what I’ve been practicing without thinking too much. It’s really cool to have him around.”
