The team was overperforming early in the season and is simply coming back down to reality. I mean the success we were having wasn’t sustainable.
We used to have one of the best bullpens in the league! But the likes of Webb and Devenski were obviously not gonna sustain such success. Not to mention Esteves and his concerning WHIP and FIP, which came around to bite him at the worst time possible.
Our backup catchers in Thaiss and Wallach were also way overperforming their norms. And have since fallen off a cliff.
Our youngsters weren’t having sustainable success either. Mickey’s walk to K ratio was awfully unsustainable. BABIP crazy high. This regression was due. Neto has since cooled off as well.
And then who’s left? The likes of Trout, Rendon, Ward, Drury got injured. Now we’re left with…Rengifo and Renfroe? Lmao two guys who are way too streaky and inconsistent. Escobar has also sucked. And some guys we poached from the Rockies sure weren’t gonna save the season.
This is quite simply the result of poor roster construction. Yes, the injuries obviously hurt too. But this team was hardly killing it during the easy part of the schedule with a full lineup. This will make this sub angry, but Perry has no clue how to construct a winning roster. Just look at the past 2 years, where he spent 50 mil for negative WAR! Awful, awful, but this subreddit defends him to death. Why? You think a team with Duffy, Squid, and Stassi is serious about winning? This is the guy dumpster diving with players like Tepera, Loup, Devenski. And signing players like Anderson a ridiculous 3 year contract that’s already sucking ass.
The only way shit changes is a top to bottom restoration. Arte needs to sell and the whole staff needs to go from Perry to Nevin to the coaches to the whole front office. A entire culture change is needed cause this club isn’t serious about baseball. This is a kiddy friendly clubhouse and it shows. No heart no emotion no grit no drive. No accountability. A fucking retirement home for players like Rendon to collect paychecks laughing his ass off in the dugout. Burn it down and start over.
